Laboratory Research Technician - Advanced Materials
About the role
Battelle’s Advanced Materials and Energetics Group is seeking to hire a Technician. This position is located in Columbus, Ohio. The Technician role will be an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team focused on researching and developing the next generation of advanced polymeric materials for a variety of applications, including genetic medicines. This role will primarily support pre-clinical and clinical development of advanced medicines, including gene therapies, all the way up to commercialization.
Responsibilities
- Proactively tracks laboratory inventory and orders laboratory supplies in anticipation of experimental and project needs.
- Use computerized equipment and support laboratory information management system (LIMS).
- Tracks equipment maintenance, inspection, and documentation.
- Develops and maintains laboratory guidelines and procedures in collaboration with senior scientists and engineers.
- Covers standard as well as non-standard tasks under supervision and guidance from more experienced staff.
- Operates standard chemistry lab equipment to include pipetting devices, balances, pH meters, centrifuges, plate readers, etc.
- Performs routine maintenance and operation of various laboratory equipment.
- Understands and follows all pertinent Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Study Protocol requirements regarding all laboratory activities assigned.
- Aids in the development of new SOPs and continuous process improvement initiatives.
- Maintains laboratory with a commitment to safety with appropriate use of PPE, chemical storage, etc.
Qualifications
- Associate degree in scientific discipline with 1 year of laboratory research and development experience; or an equivalent combination of education and or experience in a related field.
- Exhibits sufficient technical knowledge to perform routine assignments.
- Demonstrates the ability to operate basic equipment and follow standard procedures.
- Ability to perform routine specified analysis of data.
- Adherence to all chemical agent, facility, and bio-facility safety requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to be organized, multitask, communicate effectively with a team, and a desire to learn new skills.
- Able to work safely, quickly, and efficiently in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
- Microsoft Office Suite experience, including Excel and Word.
- Able to work in a team environment and train other staff on standard laboratory procedures and practices.
- Good communication and writing skills.
- Must be a US Citizen to perform duties of this role.
Preferred Qualifications
- Exposure to the operation and maintenance of essential scientific instrumentation including but not limited to HPLC, GPC, DLS, FTIR, and NMR.
- Experience with laboratory information management systems.
- Working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) in support of non-clinical studies.
- Polymer research experience.
- Experience with basic computer programming and/or coding (e.g., Python, Matlab, etc.).
