Laboratory Prep Manager

About the role

This is a full-time, non-exempt position as a Laboratory Prep Manager supporting the instructional biology laboratories. The role involves managing the general prep room to support all laboratory courses in the BIOL Lab Program, including preparation of materials, setup and breakdown of labs, ordering and culturing supplies, and maintaining detailed prep notes. UGA HazMat and Chemical Right to Know training will be provided upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Preparation of materials and supplies for introductory biology laboratories, including planning, scheduling, ordering, culturing, collecting, and preparing materials; maintaining detailed prep notes with updates (35% of time).
• Primary lab staff member responsible for setting up and breaking down introductory teaching laboratories each week (35% of time).
• Maintenance of records and documentation for teaching laboratory classrooms, including safety data sheets for chemical use, hazardous waste management, cleaning and maintaining equipment (e.g., microscopes, spectrophotometers, pipets), arranging professional service for instrument calibration, and troubleshooting equipment/supply issues (10% of time).
• Supervision of student staff, including providing safety instructions and assisting with hiring and timecard approval (15% of time).
• Assisting with administrative duties to support the BIOL lab program, such as monitoring a Biology Lab UGA email account, assisting with Division graduation, and addressing requests from UGA faculty/departments and community outreach programs (5% of time).

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Broad background in standard laboratory safety and procedures.
• Ability to lift heavy lab equipment, work with chemicals, and stand/walk for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in laboratory preparation, management, or related roles.

Up to $40,000, commensurate with experience.

Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
