Laboratory Microbiology Section Leader - Full-Time, Days

About the role

Conducts laboratory testing to aid in disease diagnosis and treatment, ensuring accuracy and proficiency. Coordinates daily section activities to support operations and compliance with policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Performing waived, moderate, and high-complexity tests with precision, reviewing pending work, and operating computerized data systems.
• Proper specimen collection, labeling, handling, and verification of patient and result identification.
• Participating in Quality Control and Quality Management, evaluating results, and addressing discrepancies.
• Monitoring supplies, troubleshooting equipment malfunctions, and performing instrument maintenance.
• Ensuring compliance with institutional, governmental, and accrediting standards; maintaining a safe environment.
• Instructing new staff, students, and support personnel, and participating in hiring processes.
• Maintaining open communication with team members and healthcare providers; supporting professional growth through continuing education.
• Assisting with competency assessments, reagent management, and special projects to support operational excellence.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or Bachelor’s in related sciences; certification preferred.
• Minimum of two years clinical laboratory experience.
• Certifications such as MT (ASCP), MLS (ASCP), or equivalent, and state licensure if applicable.

Skills and Abilities

• Proficiency in computer use (Word, Excel), strong interpersonal and leadership skills, effective communication, and mathematical aptitude.
