Laboratory Manager I

About the role

The Department of Bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh seeks a Laboratory Manager I to join Dr. Xinyan Tracy Cui’s lab. This position involves managing day-to-day laboratory operations, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and best practices, and performing a variety of administrative and technical duties.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day laboratory operations
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and best practices
• Write and update Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) protocols
• Order and receive inventory and equipment
• Maintain inventory and equipment
• Interact with vendors and facility management
• Maintain cell cultures
• Perform histological tissue processing and imaging
• Assist with small animal surgeries and procedures

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in biology, neuroscience, biomedical engineering, or a related field
• Ability to speak clearly for telephone contact
• Manual dexterity to use equipment
• Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs

Qualifications

• General physical ability to move within the lab and occasionally visit industry or other locations throughout the campus
