About the role
The Laboratory Manager position supports academic and research activities in the department/division laboratories, focusing on transportation materials (asphalt and concrete).
Responsibilities
- Responsible for work with faculty and students to support academic and research activities.
- Sets up laboratory experiments as needed.
- Captures the use of laboratory resources for class sections, research purposes, and student groups.
- Maintains laboratory safety plans and enforces safety procedures.
- Instructs students, teaching assistants, and researchers on proper tool use, instrument use, and safety procedures.
- Prepares laboratory equipment and maintains, services, and stocks parts.
- Orders new equipment as necessary.
- Prepares graduate teaching assistants to perform the duties in the lab.
- Supervises and assists with instruction when necessary.
- Coordinates with the department business office, handles freight deliveries, and receives incoming and outgoing packages.
- Manages regular schedules, duties, tasks, and training of student assistants.
- Orders supplies and consumables to support the various activities in the lab.
- Manages departmental asset management, surplus management, and inventory management.
- Coordinates with University Property Management and with the assigned Facilities Coordinator.
- Laboratory safety management for the department.
- Serves as the official lab safety officer for Civil and Environmental Engineering.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Six years of related experience.

Pay
Salary range of $55,412 - $84,311 Annually, based on education and experience.
