Laboratory Coordinator, Physical Therapy
Position Overview
This position is in a new basic research lab opening in October 2026 in the Department of Physical Therapy. The primary purpose of the Laboratory Coordinator is to assist with setting up the new lab including building electrophysiology rigs and assisting in day-to-day tasks of starting the lab. After the first 6 months or once the animal colony is established, the person in this position will be responsible for managing the mouse colony (weaning, genotyping and breeding) and performing breathing experiments in mice. Our research focuses on understanding the cellular, circuit and whole-animal mechanisms of breathing development in health and disease. The overarching goal of this research is to inform new strategies for improving breathing during early life.
Responsibilities
- Manage the mouse colony: set up breeding pairs, wean mice, collect DNA samples, perform routine PCR and gel electrophoresis experiments to determine mouse genotype
- Perform breathing experiments on mice at different developmental stages ranging from birth to adulthood. Analyze and graph data using GraphPad Prism software
- Manage regulatory compliance including lab safety, chemical waste safety, and other safety protocols
- Participate in general lab maintenance including ordering supplies, organizing and maintaining files and records
- Perform construction-related tasks: build electrophysiology and brain slice stations, install shelves, customize lab space to meet experiment needs
- Organize and inventory existing lab contents; Receive, unbox and organize new items in the lab space
