About the role

The Laboratory Coordinator will perform and demonstrate proficiency and understanding in one or more areas of the clinical laboratory, assist in instructing other personnel as assigned, perform with a perceptive depth of clinical laboratory tests and procedures which require the exercise of independent judgments and responsibility. They will maintain the highest degree of quality patient care at all times. This position is also responsible for LIS.

Responsibilities

  • Follows standardized procedures and helps prepare samples for testing.
  • Collections samples and analyze bodily fluids and substances for abnormalities.
  • Operates laboratory equipment in a high-quality, effective manner.
  • Analyzes test results for accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits, and reports/documents results per organizational standards.
  • Performs automated tests using computerized instruments & automated equipment.
  • Performs manual tests based on detailed instructions from a physician.
  • Runs tests and analyzes the results to be reported to the patient, physician, registered nurse or other licensed person.
  • Performs Quality Control work to ensure accuracy of equipment and tests performed.
  • Aid Lab Assistants as needed.
  • Analyze samples used for transfusions.
  • Collects specimens, including blood from patients.

Requirements

  • Minimum Education: Associate's in MLT or Bachelor's in MT
  • Preferred: Associate's or Bachelor's in Medical Laboratory Science
  • Required: AMLT Certification or Equivalent within 1 year of hire
  • Preferred: ASCP or Equivalent
