Laboratory Compliance Officer

About the role

Performs work corresponding to the activities within the Laboratory Licensure and Certification Office. Assists or determines the issuing of licenses to laboratories (Clinical) by ensuring the minimum standards of proficiency, methodology, quality assurance, operation, and safety. Conducts initial and periodic inspections of laboratories and facilities to determine compliance with the Federal Code of Regulations, state Statutes, or Rules. Reviews quality systems by tracking documents, corrective actions, and other quality data. Conducts investigations of licensed laboratories upon receiving a complaint or of unlicensed laboratories performing compliance testing. This position may require travel (in and out of state) and attendance at meetings at alternate locations, possibly using a state, personal, or rented vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Set up (including travel and accommodations as applicable) and perform inspections to determine compliance with statutes, rules, and internal procedures as directed.
• Monitor and/or review quality systems assigned for specific disciplines by tracking documents, corrective actions, and other quality data.
• Attend and participate in staff, advisory committee, and/or laboratory organization (e.g., APHL, AOAC, etc.) meetings.
• Participate in investigations as directed.
• Request feedback from clients regarding services.
• Other duties as assigned related to the position.

Requirements

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in laboratory science plus 3+ years of relevant experience in the lab field.
• Knowledge of Federal regulations and Arizona Revised Statutes related to laboratory testing, general laboratory procedures, laboratory management, operational concepts, specialized laboratory procedures, and laboratory safety precautions (especially with infectious agents or hazardous materials).
• Familiarity with Performance Management (PM), Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), and Lean methodologies.
• Strong oral and written communication, analytical review, interpersonal, active listening, organizational, evaluation, and training skills.
• Ability to change priorities as issues arise, problem-solve (root cause analysis), work independently, review laboratory testing, analyze analytical data, report, and evaluate analyst qualifications to provide compliance data.
• Must have a driver’s license and ability to travel.
• State, Federal, or National certification/approval in the appropriate field(s) must be obtained within 1 year of employment.

$61,362 annually.
