Laboratory Chemist

Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related sciences preferred. 10+ years of direct, hands-on experience in formulation, compounding cosmetics, OTC, and specific raw materials. 5–10 years of industry experience in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, or food. At least 2 years of hands-on laboratory work (5 years preferred). General computer skills (Microsoft Office, Lotus Notes).

Responsibilities

• Develop or replicate cosmetic ingredients, raw materials (oils, emulsifiers, preservatives, etc.) and compound lab samples to fulfill raw-material needs and client projects.
• Coordinate and manage lab technicians, formulation activities, and improvement of existing formulations.
• Assist lab technicians in developing formulations and adhering to industry and laboratory standards.
• Assess project feasibility and assign work to lab technicians based on complexity and required skills.
• Maintain timelines for customer submissions, formula evaluation, MIC, pilot schedules, stability testing, and safety testing.
• Communicate project feasibility issues to the Lab Director and collaborate with Compounding, Operations, Purchasing, Quality, Regulatory, Sales, and Technical departments.
• Provide manufacturing support and technical expertise to marketing and sales teams.
• Maintain laboratory retains, sampling, equipment, and product library (Corp #, Lot Code, Retains, Samples, etc.).
• Manage up-to-date raw-material and solution inventory at individual workstations.
• Ensure Lab Director expectations are met or exceeded.
• Maintain general laboratory housekeeping to keep the lab neat and clean for frequent client visits.
• Work in a team environment and render overtime as required.
• Follow safety protocols in the lab environment and understand SDS requirements.
• Perform any other duties or tasks required by the company.
