Laboratory Assistant, Outreach Phlebotomist
About the Role
The Laboratory Assistant will provide a wide range of laboratory services including specimen collection, client service and reception desk duties, ordering/scheduling/billing functions, laboratory testing, phlebotomy, dispatching, specimen processing, centrifuging, delivery of specimens to appropriate laboratory/department and assuring proper efficiency and workflow management. This position will also serve as a resource for questions from hospital and clinic staff regarding specimen handling and processing.
Responsibilities
- Perform specimen collection and phlebotomy
- Handle client service and reception desk duties
- Manage ordering, scheduling, and billing functions
- Conduct laboratory testing and specimen processing
- Operate centrifuges and dispatch specimens to appropriate departments
- Deliver specimens to the correct laboratory or department
- Ensure proper efficiency and workflow management
- Serve as a resource for hospital and clinic staff regarding specimen handling and processing
- Safely and legally operate Park Nicollet vehicles (valid driver’s license required)
- Occasionally drive a personal car for work-related tasks
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license to operate Park Nicollet vehicles
- Strong customer service skills
- Ability to work independently
- Good problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of age-related growth and development principles to ensure patient safety
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet time-sensitive customer requests and adapt to changes on short notice
Preferred Qualifications
- One year of phlebotomy experience
- ASCP certification for phlebotomy
