Under the supervision of the Prep Laboratory Supervisor, the Laboratory Assistant II provides operational support for the BIO 2L course within the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics.
Responsibilities
- Preparing standard media and reagents according to established protocols
- Maintaining laboratory supplies and equipment
- Processing biological waste
- Sterilizing laboratory materials
- Cultivating microorganisms according to prescribed procedures
- Preparing laboratory classrooms for instructional activities
- 40% - Laboratory Media and Reagent Preparation
- 40% - Laboratory Maintenance and Waste Processing
- 20% - Teaching Laboratory Preparation and Support
Follows established methods and procedures and works closely with instructional and laboratory staff to ensure teaching laboratories are properly equipped and maintained for student use.
Requirements
- Experience working in a laboratory environment, including preparation and maintenance of laboratory supplies, equipment, and workspaces
- Experience operating laboratory equipment such as autoclaves, sterilizers, and related laboratory support equipment
- Ability to follow established laboratory procedures and safety protocols
- Effective communication skills and ability to work cooperatively with faculty, staff, graduate teaching assistants, and students from diverse backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience preparing microbiological media and laboratory reagents
- Experience working in an academic teaching laboratory environment
- Knowledge of laboratory safety practices and biological waste handling procedures
- Ability to learn, follow, and enforce University policies and procedures related to laboratory operations and safety
Pay
$27.10/hr. - $32.65/hr., bi-weekly
Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
