We are seeking a hands-on Laboratory Assistant III to support the Genetics department by preparing media, plates, and solutions for multiple labs, ensuring researchers have high-quality materials for their work.
Responsibilities
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate supporting lab operations and maintenance under general supervision.
- Ensure cleaning and maintenance of laboratory and equipment.
- Comply with government and University health and safety policies and regulations.
- Maintain lab records and APLAC protocols if relevant.
- Manage stock control and inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment, including ordering, tracking missing items, and maintaining records.
- Determine lab supplies and reagents needed for experiments, order supplies to maintain stock, and ensure timely delivery to labs.
- Provide laboratory support services such as minor repairs and adjustments to equipment, preparing classroom demonstrations, and coordinating outside services as needed.
- Perform routine equipment servicing or arrange for outside contractors; keep service records.
- Provide orientation and training on general lab procedures to students and staff; ensure safety rules are followed.
- Lead and coordinate the work of lower-level employees, including assigning tasks, training, and inspecting work for conformance with specifications.
- Promote adherence to safety rules.
- May perform duties described in the Laboratory Assistant II specification or other assigned tasks.
Requirements
- In addition to the requirements of the Laboratory Assistant II, this position requires at least an additional year of experience in laboratory-related work or a combination of equivalent education and relevant experience.
- Ability to coordinate and organize a variety of duties within general guidelines and familiarity with laboratory needs.
- Strong interpersonal skills to establish good working relationships with professional, technical, and support staff and/or students.
- Ability to train and/or lead employees.
