About the role

To perform venipuncture and skin puncture and pre-analytical and post-analytical steps of laboratory testing.

Responsibilities

  • Upholds Kaiser Permanente’s Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities, and applicable state, federal, and local laws.
  • Selects the appropriate phlebotomy technique relative to the age and physical maturation of the patient.
  • Assesses the quality of blood to be drawn from the patient based on the patient’s age, physical maturation, and the test or study to be performed.
  • Performs venipuncture, finger stick, or heel stick proficiently on patients of all ages.
  • Properly labels samples and transports them to the laboratory or Clinical Laboratory Scientist as required.
  • Performs the pre-analytical phase of testing by bar coding, centrifuging, separating, logging, culturing, and staining bacteriological specimens.
  • Monitors and maintains appropriate inventory levels of supplies and reagents.
  • Establishes and maintains courteous, cooperative relations with the public, patients, and other personnel.
  • Performs other duties as required, including checking in patients, collecting appropriate revenue, accessioning test orders, and giving preparation instructions to patients.
  • Handles difficult patients in a professional manner.
  • Displays professionalism at all times, both in attitude and appearance.
  • Follows directives from all supervisors, leads, and seniors.
  • Assumes other activities and responsibilities from time to time as directed.

Requirements

  • One (1) year of phlebotomy experience in an acute care medical center, non-acute care setting, or equivalent military experience.
  • High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
  • Phlebotomy Technician II Certificate (California) OR Phlebotomy Technician I Certificate (California).
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job at a fully satisfactory performance level.

NOTE: The SCPMG Regional Reference Lab does not require phlebotomy certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant college courses in the life sciences.

  • Week 1 Days On: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday
  • Week 2 Days On: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday
  • Working Hours: 04:30 AM – 08:30 AM
  • Scheduled Weekly Hours: 20
  • Shift: Day
  • Job Schedule: Part-time
  • Worker Location: Onsite

Pay

$32.47 - $35.81 per hour. Kaiser Permanente strives to offer a market-competitive total rewards package and is committed to pay equity and transparency. The posted pay range is based on possible base salaries for the role and does not reflect the full value of the total rewards package. Actual base pay determined at offer will be based on labor market data, internal alignment, and a candidate's years of relevant work experience, education, certifications, skills, and geographic location.

Travel

Yes, 50% of the time. Travel locations include all MOBs (SDM, DMB, WCO, MTB, IRW).
