Laboratory Assistant II - PT - Days - MRH

This is a 3 days/week, 8 hours/day position with every other weekend and holiday rotation required. Phlebotomy experience highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the preparation and processing of bone marrow specimens.
• Provides support functions to technologists including the loading and maintaining of instruments, making up of reagents, thawing, pooling, importing, and issuing of blood products, and maintenance and function checks.
• Keeps appropriate persons informed of instrument problems and resolutions.
• Operates, maintains, and repairs clinical laboratory equipment within the scope of training including waived testing, routine preventative maintenance, calibrations, quality control and safety checks.
• Completes culture setup of microbiology samples and gram stain preparation when staffed in Microbiology department.
• Performs the phlebotomy function to ensure accurate and timely processing of lab test orders.
• Provides laboratory customer service to include request for add-ons, specimen collection information, phlebotomy requests, result inquiry, etc.
• Performs clerical duties. Also maintains equipment and adequate stock of supplies. Maintains work area in a safe, aseptic and organized manner.
• Assists with receiving, identifying, accessioning, processing and transporting specimens.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)
• Six (6) months of prior experience as a lab assistant
• Certification in Phlebotomy is preferred

Complexity of Work

This role requires the ability to effectively relate and communicate with internal and external customers, basic knowledge of laboratory information systems, critical thinking skills, effective communication skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
