Job Summary

In this role, you will:

  • Knows, understands, and puts into practice general lab policies/procedures as well as department/section specific policies/procedures.
  • Adhere to all regulatory guidelines.
  • Reviews all posted policy changes as required.
  • Demonstrates the ability to assess a situation, consider the options, and formulate an appropriate course of action.
  • Demonstrates initial and annual competency in all appropriate designated lab sections within set deadlines.
  • Accurately performs tasks when scheduled.
  • Participates in continuing education activities.
  • Participates in all facility/corporate mandatory training annually and as required within set deadlines.
  • Cooperates in assisting the laboratory team in the completion of miscellaneous duties.
  • This includes specimen receiving and putting away supplies when received in the department.
  • Effectively organizes and completes daily tasks in assigned area(s).
  • Effectively investigates/resolves specimen collection problems using Outstanding Specimen Report (OSR) and specimen tracking tool when appropriate.
  • Documents action taken appropriately and communicates actions to appropriate individuals.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills to train new employees and/or students in general lab policies/procedures as well as department/section specific policies/procedures.
  • Demonstrates ability to explain procedures and utilizes communication interventions appropriate for the age being served.
  • Demonstrates ability to explain procedures utilizes communication interventions appropriate for all customers across all ages and populations.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and adheres to all policies relating to the JCAHO National Patient Safety Goals for the Laboratory, including, but not limited to patient identification and effective communication with other caregivers.
  • Qualifications

    • Experience Required - Phlebotomy Experience or Training, Excellent customer service skills
    • PREFERRED - At least 1-year experience in phlebotomy. Specimen handling experience a plus.
    • EDUCATION Required - Successful completion of phlebotomy training from an approved school
    • CERTIFICATION Required - ASCP/ASPT certified phlebotomist or equivalent within six (6) months of start date.
