Laboratory Assistant II

About the role

Indiana University Health is Indiana’s most comprehensive health system, with 16 hospitals and more than 34,000 team members serving Hoosiers across the state. The laboratories offer comprehensive laboratory services open 24/7, performing over 19 million tests a year for IU Health and external hospitals and physicians. This full‑time day‑shift position is based in Lafayette and involves providing general laboratory services such as specimen collection, blood component preparation, pre‑analytic processing, waived and moderate complexity testing, related clerical tasks, patient and specimen registration, and specimen delivery. The incumbent may also serve on department committees or projects.

Responsibilities

• Perform specimen collection, blood component preparation, and pre‑analytic processing of specimens.
• Conduct waived testing and identified moderate complexity testing.
• Handle related clerical tasks.
• Register patients and specimens and deliver specimens.
• Participate in appropriate committees or projects that support department purposes.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Successful completion of an initial competency and six‑month competency for identified testing.
• Successful completion of an annual competency assessment for identified testing.
• Working knowledge of computers.
• Telephone skills.
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks for prolonged periods.

Qualifications

• Completion of a phlebotomy training program with laboratory experience or coursework in biological, chemical, or related science (preferred).
• Experience in waived or moderate complexity testing (preferred).
