About the role

Processes outpatient test requests. Performs venous and capillary collection of blood specimens for analysis and processes specimens for analysis and reference testing. With supervision, may perform waived and moderately complex testing and may perform chain-of-custody drug collections. Performs various other support services for the laboratory as assigned. Maintains required documentation to comply with accrediting agencies. Performs duties consistent with written procedures and regulatory requirements. Supports the department in achieving goals for service, quality, regulatory compliance, financial performance, patient satisfaction, healthy work environment, and integration of intra and inter-departmental activities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide various support services for the laboratory as assigned
  • Maintain required documentation to comply with accrediting agencies

Requirements

  • High School diploma, equivalent, or higher
  • Completion of a structured phlebotomy training course and clinical rotation is recommended

Qualifications

Preferred qualifications:

  • 6 months experience in a hospital, reference laboratory, physician office, outpatient clinic, or other medical setting
  • Phlebotomy certification by a nationally recognized certifying agency, such as:
    • American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) – Phlebotomy Technician Examination [PBT(ASCP)]
    • National Healthcare Association (NHA) – Clinical Laboratory Phlebotomy Examination (CLPlb)
    • International Academy of Phlebotomy Sciences (IAPS)
    • National Phlebotomy Association (NPA)
    • American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT)
    • National Phlebotomy Certification Examination (NPCE)
    • National Phlebotomy Solutions (NPS)
    • American Medical Technologists (AMT)
    • Other national certification as approved by Laboratory Service Line leadership

Pay

Laboratory Assistant I pay range: $18.00 - $23.31 per hour.

Schedule

  • 40 hours per week
  • Monday - Friday (11 am - 7:30 pm)
  • Weekend rotation for every 3rd weekend and rotational holidays
  • Required to work other shifts per operational demand needs
