Laboratory Assistant I - ORMC Core Laboratory (PT)

About The Role

As a Laboratory Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring specimens are accurately received, processed, prepared, and delivered for testing. This position supports laboratory workflows while maintaining quality standards, patient confidentiality, and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

• Receive, process, label, centrifuge, aliquot, and store patient specimens.
• Register patients and enter laboratory orders into the computer system.
• Prepare and stock laboratory supplies and reagents.
• Assist with maintaining and cleaning laboratory equipment, including centrifuges and refrigerators.
• Answer department telephone calls and greet visitors.
• Process specimens and requests for reference laboratories.
• Utilize hospital and laboratory information systems to support daily operations.
• Document specimen quality issues and assist with quality improvement initiatives.
• Follow established safety, infection prevention, and regulatory guidelines.
• Maintain accurate filing, report distribution, and departmental documentation.
• Communicate pending work and laboratory updates during shift transitions.
• Support customer service excellence by assisting patients, providers, and staff.
• Perform phlebotomy as needed upon completion of approved competency requirements.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Basic computer proficiency.
• Previous laboratory, healthcare, or specimen processing experience is preferred but not required.
