Laboratory Assistant, CF - Wasco State Prison (WSP)

This position is located at Wasco State Prison in Wasco, Kern County. Main communication for this role will be through email.
About the Role
Under the supervision of the Correctional Health Services Administrator I/II, the Laboratory Assistant performs standardized non-technical laboratory procedures in collecting and processing laboratory specimens, materials, and supplies. Assists in operating specialized laboratory equipment while complying with all applicable State and federal laws, regulations, and departmental policies. Maintains order, supervises the conduct of the incarcerated, and protects the safety of persons and property.
Schedule
This is a part-time position working 20 hours per week.
Pay
The monthly part-time salary range for this position is $1,691.50 to $2,272.50.
Effective July 1, 2025, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) requires a 3% base salary reduction for full-time employees in Bargaining Unit 11, with 5 PLP 2025 leave credits provided monthly through June 2027. Part-time and permanent intermittent employees are subject to these conditions on a prorated basis.
Responsibilities
- Perform standardized non-technical laboratory procedures for collecting and processing specimens, materials, and supplies.
- Assist in operating specialized laboratory equipment.
- Comply with State and federal laws, regulations, and departmental policies pertaining to laboratory operations.
- Maintain order and supervise the conduct of incarcerated individuals.
- Protect and maintain the safety of persons and property.
