About the Role
Under the supervision of the Correctional Health Services Administrator I/II, the Laboratory Assistant performs standardized non-technical laboratory procedures, including collecting and processing laboratory specimens, materials, and supplies. Assists in operating specialized laboratory equipment while complying with all applicable State and federal laws, regulations, and departmental policies. Maintains order, supervises the conduct of the incarcerated, and ensures the safety of persons and property.
Effective July 1, 2025, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) requires full-time employees in Bargaining Unit 11 (and related Excluded, Exempt, and Statutory Exempt employees) to have their base salary reduced by 3% and receive 5 PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027. Part-time and permanent intermittent employees are subject to the same conditions on a prorated basis.
Requirements
- Positions performing phlebotomy duties must possess a valid California State license/certification as a phlebotomist issued by the California Department of Public Health or an equivalent license/certification meeting legal requirements to practice phlebotomy in California. (Applicants without this certification may still apply but must obtain it prior to appointment.)
Qualifications
Candidates must meet one of the following:
- Experience: Six months of supervised laboratory work performing assigned, varied, standardized, and nontechnical laboratory procedures, including collecting, processing, or preparing laboratory specimens, materials, and supplies, and operating specialized laboratory equipment.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Training: Satisfactory completion of a formalized laboratory work experience and training program of at least three months.
