About the Role

Collects blood from patients of all ages as required by physician orders. Performs patient registration and accessions lab orders as appropriate. Processes blood to prepare for testing in all laboratory areas. Responds to phone inquiries in a timely manner and refers problems to the appropriate supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates professionalism through consistent reliability, respectful communication, and adherence to company values, policies, and ethical standards.
  • Maintains a positive attitude and represents the organization with integrity in all interactions.
  • Performs patient registration and insurance checks with attention to detail.
  • Handles and processes specimens in accordance with policy, ensuring proper identification.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality per HIPAA guidelines.
  • Maintains a clean working environment.
  • Manages inventory efficiently; awareness of material outdates, stock rotations, and reduces waste.
  • Able to recognize and resolve problems utilizing independent judgement and critical thinking, relying on procedures and applying scientific knowledge.
  • Communicates effectively to other shifts and interdepartmentally when appropriate, regarding patient and operational issues.
  • Notifies management or other key stakeholders of problems or issues, as appropriate.
  • Documents corrective actions taken for problem resolution, including errors.
  • Meets all personnel standards in governing, regulatory, and accreditation requirements for clinical laboratory testing.
  • Conducts education and training for new personnel, fellows, residents, students, and visitors within the Laboratory scope of practice.
  • Is aware of the role of the position and its potential impact on patient care, the work unit, the department, and facility operations.
  • Works effectively inter or intra-departmentally and with teams to meet patient needs and organizational goals.
  • Participates in quality and process improvement projects.
  • Attends and participates in continuing education opportunities to maintain relevancy and currency in professional practices and standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
