Laboratory Assistant

Responsibilities

• Maintain/inventory supplies and consumables
• Answer Lab phones
• Assist technologists in locating and retrieving/processing specimens
• Make copies, fax results, and refill printer paper
• Monitor lab expected list in Epic
• Accompany surgical pathology and cytology cases to the lab
• Verify specimens sent from the clinic
• Process cytology specimens for cytotechnologists
• Triage slides to proper locations
• Monitor faxes and send slides/blocks to outside facilities
• File blocks and slides
• Complete daily maintenance charts
• Dispose of hazardous material and sharps
• Maintain a neat and orderly work area
• Maintain a safe work environment
• Maintain a pleasant, courteous attitude
• Communicate with co-workers/supervisor regarding work issues

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent
• Associate degree in biological, life science, or other related field preferred
• Knowledge of medical terminology
• Excellent verbal, written, and clerical skills
• Excellent verbal communication/phone skills
• Service Orientation/Patient Experience
• Oral communication
• Written communication and comprehension
• Team player
• Attention to detail
• Able to prioritize
• High level of accuracy in all phases of the job
• Able to correctly and carefully perform testing after training
• 1+ years of experience

Pay

The compensation for this role includes a base pay range of $16.30-24.50/hr, with the actual pay determined by factors such as skills, experience, education, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity. Additional compensation may be available through shift differentials, bonuses, and other incentives. Base pay is only a portion of the total rewards package.
