About the role
The position involves working in a laboratory setting, performing various tasks such as logging in patient specimens, preparing specimens for testing, transcribing results, and assisting in the preparation of media and reagents.
Responsibilities
- Receives patient specimens and verifies patient information.
- Adds fixatives and preservatives to specimens.
- Smears and stains test specimens on glass slides.
- Transcribes laboratory test results into a permanent log or computer system.
- Routes laboratory reports to patients' wards.
Requirements
- Six (6) months' experience in laboratory work in a public health, medical, or biological laboratory.
- Physical Class 3 - Moderate: Requires standing, walking, bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, lifting up to 25 pounds, and lifting up to 10-25 pounds frequently.
Desirable Qualifications
- Additional credit for experience in an Acute Care Hospital Laboratory beyond the minimum requirements.
- Completion of chemistry, biology, or microbiology courses at an accredited college or university.
