Position Summary
Performs routine and specialized assignments and demonstrates proficiency and understanding of the procedures in the areas of a clinical laboratory.
Qualifications
- Education: High School graduate or equivalent; completion of Phlebotomy certification program preferred.
- Experience: One (1) - two (2) year experience as a laboratory assistant; phlebotomy skills including pediatric blood draws required.
- License(s)/Certification(s) Required: CPR Certification
Skills & Abilities
- Ability to communicate effectively with the patients, health center staff, and the public.
- Ability to precisely follow written and verbal instructions
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to operate a computer/lab information system
- Good oral and written communication skills.
Essential Functions
- Performs equipment maintenance and temperature checks as needed.
- Performs accession samples, performs low and medium complexity laboratory testing as needed.
- Prepares buffers and reagents.
- Prepares samples for send-out to reference laboratory.
- Assists the Medical Technologist in operating various types of laboratory equipment to perform tests in chemistry, bacteriology, urine analysis, and hematology.
- Maintains laboratory logs of tests as required and in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
