Laboratory Assistant 2, Hospital Phlebotomist
About the role
The Laboratory Assistant 2 position at Park Nicollet provides a variety of laboratory services including specimen collection, client service, reception desk duties, ordering/scheduling/billing functions, laboratory testing, phlebotomy, specimen processing, centrifuging, and specimen delivery. This role also serves as a resource for staff questions about specimen handling and processing.
Responsibilities
- Provide specimen collection and client service duties
- Order, schedule, and bill for laboratory services
- Perform laboratory tests and phlebotomy procedures
- Dispatch specimens to appropriate labs/departments
- Ensure proper workflow and efficiency
- Assist with specimen processing and centrifuging
- Deliver specimens to designated locations
- Support staff with questions about specimen handling and processing
Requirements
- Strong customer service skills
- Ability to work independently and solve problems
- Knowledge of age-related growth and development principles
- Organizational skills to handle time-sensitive requests
Qualifications
- Experience in a medical-related field or an applied science degree is desirable
- One year of hospital experience preferred
- ASCP certification for phlebotomy preferred
