Laboratory Assistant 1

Responsibilities

• Correctly identify patient specimens while receiving blood/non-blood specimens in Lab computer system and charting of patient reports
• Pick up specimens by pneumatic tube, perform clerical functions associated with specimen receipt
• Answer phones and provide information to nurses, doctors, etc.
• Log in patient requests from outside facilities or offices
• Prepare send out specimens for reference laboratory following outlined protocol
• Chart lab reports if required
• Manage information in Lab computer system
• Receive and process all laboratory test specimens (blood and non-blood)
• Perform steps required to complete specimen receipt plus general lab and reference sample processing
• Train new staff in each area for which competency is maintained
• Perform any other assigned duties which may include charting of cumulative reports

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Knowledge of phlebotomy preferred
• Customer interaction and public relations skills
• To handle age specific needs
