About the Role

NewYork-Presbyterian/Lower Manhattan Hospital is the singular source of care and caring for the 750,000 New Yorkers who live and work south of 14th Street. The Histology part-time dayshift position assists with processing specimens received in Anatomic Pathology. The Histology area receives an average of 510 cases per month, with each specimen taking approximately 1.5 hours to process.

The vision for this role includes maintaining 2 full-time and 1 part-time histology positions to ensure all specimens are processed daily, with coverage for vacations and breaks. This position helps fill workload gaps without affecting the timeliness of slide releases to pathologists, which impacts patient diagnoses.

Schedule

This is a part-time position requiring 3 shifts per week (Monday, Tuesday, Friday), from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Scheduling is flexible to switch a day within the same week.

Responsibilities

  • Process histology specimens to ensure timely release of slides to laboratory pathologists.
  • Assist in maintaining workflow efficiency within the Anatomic Pathology department.
  • Provide coverage for vacations and breaks to ensure continuous specimen processing.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or equivalent experience.
  • New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist licensure from the New York Education Department.
  • ASCP certification (preferred).

New hires pending a Clinical Laboratory Technologist license:

  • Must obtain the license within 6 months of hire.
  • Must work only in a trainee capacity until licensure is obtained.

Pay

Salary range: $52.61 - $65.45 per hour.
