Lab Technician - training will be provided!

About the role

This full‑time, permanent position is based at SGS’s East Syracuse, NY laboratory in the Metals department. The Lab Technician prepares samples with accuracy and precision according to SGS analytical SOPs, works both independently and as part of a team to meet daily production targets, and follows safe laboratory practices.

Responsibilities

• Independently prepare samples for analysis according to SGS analytical SOPs using basic instrumentation specific to the department and analytical methodologies.
• Perform routine operation, maintenance, and calibration of preparation instruments/equipment.
• Assist with validation and MDL (Method Detection Limit) studies as needed.
• Input and maintain technical information to support laboratory functions and operations.
• Maintain a Laboratory Notebook where applicable.
• Adhere to internal standards, policies, and procedures.
• Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and 0–2 years of experience in analytical chemistry laboratories or hands‑on experience (required).
• Associate’s degree in chemistry or a related scientific discipline and 1–2 years of relevant analytical chemistry laboratory experience (preferred).
• Advanced English language skills (required).
• Basic mathematical, reasoning, and computer skills (required).
• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull upwards of 25 lb on a frequent basis (required).

Pay

The expected hourly range for this position is $20 – $21, with the actual rate depending on skills, experience, and qualifications.
