Join NaphCare’s team of medical professionals within the Alabama Department of Corrections in Springville, AL. New graduates are encouraged to apply—training in correctional healthcare will be provided.

Responsibilities

  • Collects blood and other specimens from patients for laboratory testing, ensuring accurate patient identification, sample labeling, and proper handling to maintain specimen integrity.
  • Performs venipuncture and finger sticks on patients, adhering to safety protocols.
  • Labels specimens accurately, processes them for testing, and operates centrifuges.
  • Verifies patient identity, explains procedures to reduce anxiety, and ensures patient comfort.
  • Cleans and sterilizes equipment, restocks supplies, and manages hazardous waste according to OSHA/CLIA standards.
  • Enters patient information and test orders into databases and requisitions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a phlebotomy technician training program.
  • Proficiency in blood collection techniques, strong communication, and attention to detail.
  • Active BLS CPR Certification (AHA required).
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information.
  • Integrity, professionalism, and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
  • Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening.
  • Physical and mental capacity to work in an environment that may be less than pristine, as well as manage and maintain health when encountering stressful situations.
