About the role
The Histology team at Cleveland Clinic prepares body tissue samples for microscopic examination by the pathologist, often during surgery. This role involves entering specimen information into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
Responsibilities
- Accurately enter specimen information into the Laboratory Information System (LIS)
- Work independently and handle sensitive materials with extreme attention to detail
- Perform advanced manual processing and problem-solving techniques in laboratory accessioning/data entry
- Create slides and/or duties associated with the subspecialty client liaison
- Conduct higher level accessioning in the LIS including esoteric testing
- Conduct advanced tracking investigations
- Serve as a subspecialty client liaison
- Be responsible for advanced problem solving/issue resolution (pending log/SERS/block QA)
- Perform tasks involved with creating slides and/or cell blocks
- Perform frozen section processing (frozen section slide creation)
- Create cell block slides
- Assist in cytology adequacy assessments
- Prepare specimens for analysis
- Perform manual processing (centrifuge, aliquoting and routine maintenance)
- Run and resolve LIS logs
- Retrieve, sort, track and deliver specimens
- Perform logistic activities within and outside of lab
- Use tracking software/devices
- Comply with safety, SOP & regulations
- Maintain appropriate documentation
Requirements
Minimum qualifications:
- Associate degree (preferably in science)
- Two years of lab processing experience
- Four years of lab technician or comparable processing experience may substitute the education requirement
- Active enrollment in the Cleveland Clinic MLS program may substitute the education and experience requirement
Preferred qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, physics or medical laboratory science

- Ability to perform specimen handling techniques and take measurements
- Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods
- Ability to move throughout the department and hospital system
- Ability to handle and transport bio-hazardous materials and potential carcinogens
- Ability to differentiate color, hue, saturation, and tones
- Ability to live/move up to 50 lbs

Pay
The pay range for this role is from $25.00 to $34.85 per hour.
