Lab Technician I

Pay Range: $25.00–$26.00/hr (night shift differential, performance incentive bonus, full benefits package, 401k options)

About the role

We are looking for a Quality Control Lab Technician to join our Dispersions team in Monaca, PA. In this role, you will perform quality assurance testing of raw materials, intermediates, and finished latex products. Providing accurate results in our software systems allows BASF to evaluate data which supports the continuous improvement of lab and plant processes to meet and/or exceed customer expectations.

Responsibilities

• Actively support and promote a safe working environment, participate in all safety trainings and programs, and support Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security plant initiatives.
• Operate a variety of testing equipment including GCs, HPLC, FTIR, spectrophotometers, viscometers, ovens, balances, pH meters, microscopy, LIMS & SAP data systems.
• Use appropriate software to evaluate data based on internal and external specifications, procedure requirements, and LIMS programming, as well as enter information into SAP software.
• Perform quality assurance testing of in-process and finished latex products within the scope of the BASF Quality Policy and ISO 9001 Quality Management System, including testing using pH, viscosity, gas chromatography, and other analytical techniques.
• Conduct additional testing as required, including wastewater samples and bacteria testing.
• Support the continuous improvement of lab and plant processes through QA/QC activities, instrument troubleshooting and maintenance, and meeting/exceeding customer expectations.
• Interact with the Supply Chain and Operations departments at the Monaca site to expedite shipments to customers utilizing SAP.
• Available to work rotating 12-hour shifts (7:30 am–7:30 pm and vice versa) and overtime when needed.

Employees understand the importance of process safety as it applies to their jobs and are responsible for following and contributing to the work processes to achieve improvement in company process safety performance.

Requirements

• 2-year Associate’s degree or technical degree in Chemistry/Analytical testing OR related field with lab experience OR High School Diploma/GED with minimum 2+ years of relevant industrial lab experience.
• Experience working in a manufacturing environment on a 12-hour rotating shift.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and ability to operate various computer-controlled instruments.
• Knowledge of testing equipment found in a laboratory setting: GCs, HPLC, FTIR, viscometers.
• Basic understanding of general chemistry, quality assurance and quality control techniques, math, statistics, analytical methodology, problem-solving, and ability to record and report pertinent data.
• Ability to lift up to a maximum of 30 lbs on occasion.
• Ability to follow both written procedures and verbal instructions and adhere to all applicable safety procedures, including correct personal protective equipment.
• Willing and available to work rotating 12-hour shifts (7:30 am–7:30 pm and vice versa) and overtime when required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in an ISO or GMP compliance-driven lab environment.
• Experience with emulsion polymerization products, laboratory testing, and practices.
• Minimum 2+ years’ experience in a lab position of increasing responsibility.

Schedule

Rotating 12-hour shifts: 7:30 am–7:30 pm and vice versa, with overtime as needed.
