Lab Technician I

We are looking for a Lab Technician to join our Catalyst team in Savannah, GA. BASF’s Catalysts division is the global market leader in catalyst technologies. The division develops and produces mobile emissions catalysts as well as process catalysts and offers precious metals trading, recycling, and related products and services.

About the role

As a Lab Technician for our Catalyst business unit, you will conduct quality control testing on products manufactured by the BASF Savannah site facility in accordance with documented analytical test procedures as directed by the Quality Supervisor. The Savannah plant manufactures fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) catalysts, co-catalysts, and additives used by petroleum refiners to convert crude oil into gasoline, other transportation fuels, heating oil, and petrochemical feed stocks.

Responsibilities

• Set up, calibrate, and operate laboratory instrumentation such as analytical balances, pH and ion meters, microwave moisture analysis ovens, microwave digestion ovens, surface area analysis, atomic absorption, X-ray fluorescence and diffraction, and particle size analysis.
• Operate computer-controlled instrumentation and store and extract data.
• Prepare solutions, standards, and buffers according to standard formulas used in analytical analysis.
• Prepare quality control production samples such as microspheres, zeolites, FCC catalysts, and alumina.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED with 2-3 years of laboratory experience.
• Associate’s Degree/Bachelor’s degree in chemistry/biology or related field or any higher education: No experience required.
• Familiarity with laboratory analysis and math calculations.
• Willing and able to work 12-hour shifts, rotating from day to night shifts.
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs, carrying up to 25 lbs.
