Lab Technician - Full Time - Night, 8 hrs

1.0 FTE Full time, Night shift (300P - 1100P), Onsite at Stanford Health Care, 300 Pasteur Dr, Palo Alto, California.

About the role

Under the direction of the section supervisor or senior technical support, you will prepare, process, and load specimens onto testing platforms; assist in instrument maintenance; process specimens for confirmatory testing; archive samples after analysis; label and stain as required; respond to inquiries from Pre-analytical Services and Technical Sections; record equipment temperature readings; perform clerical duties; and participate in pre-clinical test development, training, and ad-hoc projects.

Responsibilities

• Accession patient information into Laboratory information system(s). Check all requests for proper and accurate patient information. Consult with Supervisor or Technologist if request is problematic. Notify physician, nursing unit, clinic, etc. if sample received is inappropriate or compromised.
• Prepare specimens in preparation for testing and quality control as directed, adhering to all Safety/Health regulatory and state/federal legal requirements, operating procedures, and Services Standards of the Hospitals.
• Assist in routine and regularly scheduled preventive maintenance for all automated and semi-automated instruments according to established procedures.
• Determine suitability of specimens for analysis and, if necessary, perform pre-analytical processing of the specimens following established guidelines.
• Inventory and order supplies. Verify delivery order and restock and/or distribute supplies to the appropriate areas of the lab.
• Maintain logs and records for all Laboratory transactions and information in accordance with department and regulatory requirements.
• Monitor and record temperatures of incubators, heating blocks, water baths, freezers, and refrigeration units; ensure readings are within specified range; notify supervisor of any exceptions.
• Organize, catalog, and store patient specimen samples.
• Participate in pre-clinical test development according to established protocols.
• Perform clerical functions such as word processing, entering information into the database, handling calls and inquiries, and other support functions as assigned.
• Process specimens analyzed for outside reference laboratories for additional testing. Receive and process all specimens/samples following proper laboratory procedures.
• Ensure patient samples are distributed to the appropriate areas of the laboratory or routed to other hospital departments as required.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Two (2) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.

Pay

Generally starting at $42.51 - $47.67 per hour. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
