Lab Technician - Full-Time

About the Role

We are looking for a Laboratory Technician to work in our Community Health Center in Southeastern Utah. Our clinic is a dynamic place to work, practice, and grow. We have 4 primary care health centers and deliver integrated services including behavioral health, Pharmacy, Dental, specialty referrals, chronic disease management, health education, and more.

Responsibilities

• Work and communicate effectively with all staff associated with the laboratory, including physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nursing staff, and reference laboratory staff, to ensure patient lab work is received and results are communicated accurately.
• Obtain lab specimens according to UNHS protocol, ensuring correct samples and quantities are collected while maintaining proper PPE and aseptic techniques.
• Conduct quantitative and qualitative chemical analysis of body fluids such as blood and urine under the supervision of a UNHS medical technologist, including daily quality control and equipment cleaning.
• Handle, process, and document various lab specimens to ensure accurate and timely completion of lab requests.
• Perform proficiency testing as required to maintain COLA/CLIA licensure.

• Effective and courteous communication with providers, nurses, and lab staff.
• Accurate collection, handling, and care of lab specimens to ensure correct results.
• Completion of all quality control tasks to ensure proper functioning of lab equipment.
• Compliance with reference laboratory requirements for specimen collection and shipping.
• Timely completion of assigned proficiency tests and competencies.

Requirements

• High school diploma required.
• Two years’ experience as a lab technician.
• Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records and Lab Interface systems.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Successful completion of a criminal background check.
• First Aid/CPR certification.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate Degree in Medical Lab Technology from an accredited college or university.

Immunization Requirements

As a Tribal Organization, Utah Navajo Health System, Inc. (UNHS) requires proof of the following immunizations/vaccinations:

• MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): Two vaccines or documentation of titers.
• Hepatitis B vaccine series (3 doses), proof of titers, or declination.
• Proof of up-to-date PPD skin testing or positive PPD with chest x-ray and treatment history.
• Tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap).
• Varicella titers, history of varicella, or immunization series.
• Influenza vaccine for the current year.
• COVID-19 vaccine.
• Any other vaccinations as requested.
