Lab Technician, Ferndale Refinery
About the role
The Technician III, Lab, performs tasks related to the completion of routine and non-routine testing within the lab. This includes, but is not limited to, the day-to-day process samples, QA/QC samples, and all finished product testing and certification.
Responsibilities
- Participation in the laboratory safety program
- Aid in the execution of all laboratory control testing and reporting
- Calibration and standardization of various test equipment and reagents
- Develops and maintains skills related to safety methods, SOP's, and LIMS system
- Maintains a safe, clean, and orderly work environment
- Routine testing of process samples and certification of final products
Requirements
- Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
- High school diploma or GED
- Possess a valid Driver's License
- Possess or be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card
- Willing and able to perform and comply with the following, with or without reasonable accommodation:
- To work rotating 12-hour shifts that include nightshift, weekends and holidays
- To work paid overtime shifts to cover sick calls and vacation relief
- To work safely near large, hot, high-speed machines
- To climb ladders and stairs up to 200 feet in height
- To transport articles of up to 50 pounds
- To work around chemicals, including acids and bases
- To work around hydrocarbons under high pressure and heat
- To work outside in harsh weather conditions
- To wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toe shoes, ear and eye protection)
- To maintain your face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven)
Preferred
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry or other science related field with chemical laboratory program components
- Completed college level General Chemistry series and Organic Chemistry series
- 2+ years of experience in the petrochemical industry
- LIMS experience
- Proficiency in MS Office
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees
- Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference to work
Pay
The starting pay for this role is $89,481 annually (before overtime) with a 7.5% annual bonus target. At Phillips 66, we are committed to pay transparency and competitive, equitable compensation.
