Responsibilities
- Independently and accurately perform routine and complex molecular testing, including DNA/RNA extraction and PCR.
- Review preliminary and final test results.
- Aid in resolving technical problems in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures.
- Record, compile, and maintain records according to laboratory policies to ensure state and federal regulations are upheld for all reagents, procedures, and equipment used in the testing process.
- Aid in the development, evaluation, and implementation of new procedures and protocols.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
- Cook daily communications of the laboratory with physicians and other parties.
- Participate in educational activities.
- Perform other related work as required.
Clia Qualifications (42 Cfr 493.1489)
- Doctoral, master’s, or bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Lab Sciences, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biology, or Physics.
- Associate’s degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science or medical lab technology.
- Educational equivalent to Associate’s degree with at least:
- 60 semester hours including 24 semester hours of medical lab technology;
- OR 60 semester hours including 24 hours of science that includes 6 hours chemistry, 6 hours biology, and 12 hours chemistry, biology, medical technology in any combination;
- AND 3 months training in each specialty in which high complexity testing is performed.
Additional Qualifications
- 1-2 years of experience in a molecular CLIA licensed clinical laboratory.
- Medical Technologist board certification preferred.
- Ability to read and comprehend English and follow instructions.
- Good communication and critical thinking skills.
- Understanding of statistics.
- Ability to creatively think under pressure and handle high stress levels, changing environments, and possible irregular work hours.
- Ability to recognize potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens and/or hazardous chemicals in the workplace and execute safety protocols in the event of exposure or spill.
- Must be able to demonstrate competency for all required diagnostic tests and other areas of assignment within 3 months of hire date.
Working Conditions
- Physical Requirements: Ability to climb stairs, lift 35 lbs, sit or stand for long periods, and walk/bend down.
- Visual and auditory acuity and good eye/hand coordination.
Direct Reporting
- Reports to the Lab Supervisor.
Pay
Starting at $25/hr.
