About the role

As a Lab Technician, you will contribute to Johnson Matthey's mission as a world leader in sustainable technology, transforming energy and reducing carbon emissions for a cleaner, brighter future.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out the analysis of raw materials, washcoats, impregnation solutions, and finished catalysts in accordance with the best laboratory practices as defined in ISO/IEC 17025.
  • Prepare samples for chemical and physical measurements using various techniques including LECO Solids, ICP-OES, Particle size distribution, PGM dispersion (chemisorption), Coefficient of Thermal Expansion, Thermo-Gravimetric Analysis, Porosity, Surface Area, and X-Ray Fluorescence.
  • Achieve accurate data entry into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and ensure the export of essential information related to laboratory testing.
  • Create clear and concise procedures within the QC Laboratories and adhere to Health and Safety/environmental procedures and regulations (PPE).
  • Report any accidents or near misses promptly and assist in maintaining good House Keeping practices.
  • Participate in Lean deployment initiatives such as 5S, SPs, CIS, and Kaizen to foster a lean environment.
  • Prepare ICP calibration standards with independent verification before release to routine use.
  • Demonstrate the ability to distinguish between good and bad data and continuously improve knowledge and practical skills in instrument calibration and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with all employees within the plant and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties as reasonably instructed and comply with the established EHS system.

Requirements

  • B-Tech certificate or B.Sc professional qualification in chemistry or equivalent education with at least two years' experience within a chemical industry.
  • Good working knowledge of analytical instrumental techniques used within the QC Labs.
  • A detailed understanding of general wet chemical techniques for inorganic analysis.
  • Awareness of ISO/IEC 17025 and IATF 16949 quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Education: B-Tech certificate or B.Sc professional qualification in chemistry or equivalent education.
  • Experience: At least two years' experience within a chemical industry.

Skills

  • Good laboratory and measurement practices according to ISO/IEC 17025, including the ISO/TS 16949 quality standard.
  • Competence in the use of all sample preparation and instrumental techniques.
  • Knowledge of general wet chemical techniques for inorganic analysis.
  • Working knowledge of analytical instrumental techniques used within the QC Labs.
  • Awareness of ISO/IEC 17025 and IATF 16949 quality standards.
