Lab Tech - Microbiology

Description

Lab Tech - AP/Micro Part-time, 20 hours/week, 7am-3:30pm Monday-Friday with rotating weekends and Holidays.

Essential Functions

• Perform over 220,000 tests per year, utilizing skills and learning within a state-of-the-art microbiology lab.
• Located in Saint Joseph Mercy Health System Ann Arbor, providing access to the city's cultural, academic, and recreational offerings.

Skills, Knowledge, Education And Experience

• High School Diploma, two years of college course work in a science curriculum with 12 hours of Science credits preferred (valid transcripts must be provided).
• Associates of Science, Applied Science (or similar) degree preferred.
• Analytical-Waived/Moderately Complex Testing: perform specified waived and/or moderately complex testing, assess/intervene on test results, maintain quality control records, and seek assistance for issues.
• Routine Maintenance and Troubleshooting: perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on equipment, conduct proficiency testing according to standard protocols.
• Specimen Processing: process and evaluate orders and specimens, maintain specimen integrity, prioritize and distribute specimens, prepare specimens for automated analyzers.
• Clerical and Service Tasks: answer telephone inquiries, fax, mail, and deliver reports, maintain and file laboratory records and reports.

Additional Duties

• Register patients and place test orders, load specimens on automated analyzers, perform culture plating techniques, and reagent preparation, as required.
