Lab Tech - Microbiology

Essential Functions

• Perform over 220,000 tests per year, utilizing experience and skills in a state-of-the-art microbiology lab.
• Located in Saint Joseph Mercy Health System Ann Arbor, providing access to the city's cultural, academic, and recreational offerings.

Skills, Knowledge, Education and Experience

• High School Diploma, with two years of college course work completed (40-60 credit hours) in a science curriculum or equivalent with 12 hours Science credits preferred.
• Associates of Science, Applied Science (or similar) degree preferred.
• Analytical-Waived/Moderately Complex Testing: Perform specified waived and/or moderately complex testing, assess/investigate integrity of test results, maintain quality control records, and seek assistance for resolution of issues.
• Specimen Processing: Process and evaluate orders and specimens for acceptability, maintain specimen identification and integrity, prioritize and distribute specimens to appropriate sections for analysis, prepare specimens for automated analyzers, and perform culture plating techniques and reagent preparation.
• Clerical and Service Tasks: Answer telephone inquiries, fax, mail, and deliver reports, maintain and file laboratory records and reports, register patients, place test orders, collect and receive patient samples, load specimens on automated analyzers, and perform media preparation and glassware washing duties.
