Job Description
The Clinical Laboratory Technician performs pre-analytic specimen processing and supports patient testing in a Central Processing Laboratory. This role operates a variety of laboratory and office equipment, enters information and test orders into the laboratory information system, and responds to a high volume of phone calls regarding laboratory testing.

Responsibilities
- Perform pre-analytic specimen processing, including receiving, labeling, and preparing specimens for testing.
- Ensure correct patient identification on all specimens and related documentation to maintain accuracy and safety.
- Identify, document, and resolve pre-analytic specimen-related issues in accordance with laboratory protocols.
- Enter patient information and test orders accurately into the laboratory computer system.
- Operate a variety of laboratory instruments, automated systems, and office equipment to support testing workflows.
- Troubleshoot basic instrumentation issues and escalate complex problems as needed.
- Prepare complex reagents and solutions following established procedures and quality standards.
- Manage work unit supply inventory, including monitoring stock levels and coordinating replenishment.
- Respond to a high volume of phone calls from internal and external stakeholders seeking laboratory testing information.
- Collaborate closely with technologists and other laboratory staff as an integral member of the patient testing team.
- Adhere to all laboratory safety, quality, and regulatory standards during specimen handling and processing.
- Provide training and guidance to new or less experienced staff on specimen processing and laboratory procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a human biological science is required. Acceptable degrees include Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Neuroscience, or similar fields.
Job Type & Location
- This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rochester, MN.
Pay And Benefits
- The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $24.00/hr.
