Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years' experience required
- Registered Laboratory Technician with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or American Medical Technologists
Qualifications
- BLS certification
- 2 years of experience
Skills
- Ability to perform a variety of laboratory tests and procedures
- Ability to determine presence of normal and abnormal components in blood
- Ability to perform blood group, type, and compatibility tests
- Ability to study cells and morphology
- Ability to review quality controls and decide if results are within acceptable ranges
- Ability to participate in scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of instruments
- Ability to perform proficiency testing as assigned
- Ability to conduct quality control testing and data analysis
- Ability to prepare solutions, stains, reagents, and other equipment and supplies
- Ability to review reports, accession logs, computer-generated reports, and other information produced in the clinical laboratory
- Ability to establish and control testing sites to ensure appropriate environmental conditions
- Ability to maintain professional knowledge and proficiency through continuing education programs and mandatory staff meetings
- Ability to prepare clear, technically sound, accurate, and informative reports of tests, analyses, and examinations
- Ability to collect blood specimens via venipuncture and capillary puncture
- Ability to provide instructions to patients and their families on proper specimen collection and aftercare
- Ability to prepare and affix labels to specimen vials for proper identification
- Ability to participate in departmental orientation, on-the-job training, and quality assurance programs
- Ability to attend department and hospital educational programs to maintain current skill and competency levels
