Lab Supervisor
About the role
The Laboratory Technical Supervisor at Memorial Health University Medical Center assists the Manager and Administrative Director with the day-to-day operations of the hematology section/department. This includes managing personnel, maintaining consistent staffing levels, developing and monitoring quality control, quality assurance, and proficiency testing programs; overseeing equipment, supplies, and inventories; and supporting managers and directors in various personnel activities.
Responsibilities
- Manages personnel, maintains consistent staffing levels
- Maintains and monitors daily quality control, quality assurance, and proficiency testing programs
- Develops and evaluates laboratory methodologies, protocols, and techniques
- Oversees care, maintenance, and utilization of department equipment, supplies, and inventories
- Performs clinical testing as needed
- Supports Managers and Administrative Director in personnel activities such as interviewing, work allocation, orientation and training, staff development, problem resolution, evaluating performance, making recommendations for personnel actions, and motivating employees to achieve peak performance
- Understands laboratory methods, demonstrates knowledge of pathological processes with correlation of disease states and test results
- Independently performs specimen processing and testing to include moderate and high complexity testing (as appropriate per facility)
- Safely administers quality control and calibration of instrumentation where applicable
- Assures compliance with accrediting agencies; understands and applies CQI principles; anticipates needs and develops, implements, and evaluates quality assurance programs, provides corrective action and documentation
- Develops and evaluates laboratory methodologies, procedures, and techniques in the area of clinical specialty
- Functions as laboratory liaison and contact person in the absence of other management personnel
- Acts as a resource to customers, both within the department and outside the department, on testing methods and procedures, and laboratory operations, safety and training
- Oversees ordering, care, maintenance and utilization of department equipment, supplies, and inventories
Qualifications
- (CLT/CLS) Clinical Laboratory Technologist/Scientist
- (HT-ASCP) Histotechnician
- (HTL-ASCP) Histotechnologist
- (MLS) Medical Laboratory Scientist
- 5 years of relevant experience required
- Supervisory experience preferred
