Job Summary
The Laboratory Staff Assistant (LSA) performs a variety of services, including phlebotomy and specimen collection. Duties include working with patients ranging from newborn to 26 years old, sometimes including older, autistic, and mentally delayed individuals. Specimen receiving and processing are also part of the role.
Responsibilities
- Phlebotomy and specimen collection on patients from newborn to 26 years old, including those with special needs.
- Specimen receiving and processing using appropriate techniques as established by Dayton Children’s Hospital labs.
- All QA/QC for the center's lab must meet Dayton Children's and governing body standards (OSHA, CAP, AABB, JCAHO, ODH).
- May require a working knowledge of SunQuest, LIS applicable functions, and patient registration in EPIC, order entry in the LIS.
- Maintain certification, training documents, and QA/QC monitoring that comply with Dayton Children's Hospital requirements.
- May involve limited travel to different Dayton Children’s Hospital outpatient locations.
- Phlebotomy certification is required within one year of employment.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Ohio driver’s license.
- Phlebotomy certification required after one year of employment.
