Laboratory Assistant II, Full-Time 2nd Shift

Position Summary

Orlando Health South Lake Hospital is a comprehensive medical and surgical acute care facility serving the residents of Lake County. The Laboratory Assistant II position supports patient registration, third-party reimbursement, specimen handling, and laboratory operations.

Schedule

Schedule: 4x10s Weekly on 2nd Shift; Rotating Weekends*

Responsibilities

• Supports patient registration and third-party reimbursement requirements.
• Maintains department supplies and customer supply orders.
• Demonstrates knowledge of specimen collection and handling requirements.
• Processes pathology specimens as appropriate.
• Trains staff as required.
• Absorbs flexible hours to meet department needs.
• Works cooperatively with all team members and responds to customer phone calls.
• Maintains laboratory equipment and keeps work area clean and organized.
• Maintains confidentiality of patient records and hospital matters.
• Documents specimen quality issues and adheres to infection control and safety practices.
• Assists with charting and report distribution via various methods.
• Reads and understands physician's laboratory test orders.
• Schedules Pathologists, Histotechnicians, or Transportation Reps as needed.
• Assists with bone marrow collection and processing.
• Performs phlebotomy as necessary (must have approved competency).

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalency.
• Two (2) years of laboratory experience or patient care experience.
• Current student seeking higher educational degree or certification in a science field, such as nursing, medical technology, pre-med, or related clinical field may be substituted for up to two years of the required experience.
