Work Schedule

This is a full-time, 100% FTE, day shift position. Scheduled shifts are Monday through Friday with 4:30 AM start time. On-call rotation with leadership team every three weeks, including holidays/weekends. Hours may vary based on department needs.

About the role

Join our team as an Early Morning Inpatient Phlebotomy Supervisor, a hands-on leadership role supporting phlebotomy operations across University Hospital (UH) and American Family Children's Hospital (AFCH).

Responsibilities

  • Begin each day alongside your team, performing inpatient phlebotomy during the critical early morning collection hours while providing real-time coaching and operational support.
  • Lead daily team operations, oversee phlebotomy training and onboarding, collaborate with nursing and hospital leaders, and ensure the delivery of safe, efficient, and high-quality laboratory services.
  • Balancing frontline patient care with team development, collaboration, and operational excellence.
  • Be responsible for phlebotomy personnel management, employee schedules, biweekly payroll maintenance, and work in collaboration with leadership to ensure regulatory compliance to maintain accreditation.
  • Aid in the development, annual review, and implementation of department policies and procedures.
  • Maintain visible supervision of employees, direct work flow, and assist with patient care to maximize efficiency.
  • Perform and document assigned quality activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in chemical physical, biological or clinical laboratory science (or) an Associate Degree and two years of relevant experience, in addition to the required work experience below, may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
  • Three years of relevant laboratory experience.
  • One year of experience in a leadership capacity (preferred).
  • Licenses & Certifications: American Society for Clinical Pathology registered as Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Technologist, Medical Laboratory Technician, Cytotechnologist, Specialist in Cytotechnology, Histotechnician, Histotechnologist, Technologist in Blood Bank, Specialist in Blood Bank, Phlebotomist, Diplomate in Laboratory Management, or certification appropriate for Clinical Lab department(s) managed.
