Lab Phlebotomist, Part Time

About the Role

Part-time position (3-5 days/week) with a flexible schedule at multiple locations within Durham, NC. The Phlebotomist is responsible for drawing and collecting blood from patients, preparing samples for testing, verifying patient records, and entering data into the system. Ensures sample integrity through proper identification and labeling, maintains work area cleanliness, and instructs patients on Coumadin while performing limited waived testing.

Responsibilities

• Performs painless venipuncture and capillary puncture for the Coumadin clinic.
• Identifies patients following protocol.
• Prepares samples for processing with correct labels and barcodes; inspects vials.
• Reconciles outstanding sample reports at the end of the day.
• Observes safety procedures and sample preparation guidelines.
• Supports and guides day-to-day activities.
• Cleans up old orders and combines orders in Copia; identifies duplicate vs. necessary tests.
• Demonstrates excellent guest service to internal team members and patients.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Phlebotomy certification, Medical Assistant (M.A.) certification, or certificate from a phlebotomy program.
• 2+ years of experience in a laboratory setting.
• Understanding of labeling/ID protocol and knowledge of common lab tests, sample types, and vacutainers.
• Familiarity with Biohazard, OSHA safety regulations for medical offices, and Universal precautions.
• Knowledge of test requirements and ability to search Quest/LabCorp for esoteric tests.
• Ability to interpret miscellaneous orders.
• Ability to guide and observe new phlebotomists.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.

Pay

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $17.10 to $27.00 per hour. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, qualifications, geographic location, internal equity, and business needs.
