About the role
The Lab Operations Coordinator provides operational and administrative support to ensure the effective functioning of laboratory facilities. This role manages procurement, equipment maintenance, safety compliance, and space utilization, while serving as a primary liaison between researchers, vendors, and institutional offices.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and optimize laboratory operations by managing equipment scheduling, coordinating training programs, and directing maintenance and service activities to maximize efficiency, safety, and compliance.
- Lead procurement, inventory management, and vendor coordination to ensure timely and cost-effective acquisition of laboratory supplies and services.
- Coordinate preventative maintenance, service contracts, and repair activities for lab infrastructure and specialized equipment.
- Serve as the primary liaison between laboratory personnel, facilities, Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S), and external vendors to resolve operational issues and support strategic initiatives.
- Monitor and maintain records of laboratory safety, regulatory compliance, and inspection activities, proactively identifying and addressing potential risks.
- Develop, implement, and refine procedures and best practices to improve operational workflows, resource allocation, and compliance adherence.
- Support long-term planning for laboratory space, equipment upgrades, and operational initiatives in alignment with institutional goals.
- Track and reconcile operational budgets, invoices, and purchasing records, providing reports and recommendations to departmental leadership.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma, GED, or vocational training
- 1+ years of relevant experience
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite
- Experience with current GTRI/SEAL inventory processes and asset tracking, including coordination with GTRI Property Control for asset tagging
- Experience with relevant applications for GTRI/SEAL asset management, including some combination of Workday, PEDYN, RFTrack, and QTrak
