About the role
Perform routine clinical laboratory tests in hematology, chemistry, and coagulation following established standards and practices. Analyze blood, body fluids, and tissues to provide data for diagnosis and treatment of disease.
Responsibilities
- Make decisions concerning sample collection and handling
- Perform daily instrument maintenance and quality control
- Conduct sample testing and collect/interpret data
- Maintain accurate records and report data
- Understand and communicate critical values
- Follow established standards for quantitative and qualitative clinical laboratory studies
- Provide specific communication and address the needs of patients, families, and visitors across all age groups (neonate to geriatric)
- Comply with Standards of Behavior and department policies, procedures, and regulations
- Troubleshoot technical issues
- Handle moderate exposure to chemicals, biological materials, and/or low-level radiation
- Communicate effectively with healthcare team members, technical services, and patients
- Perform moderate lifting (up to 50 lbs) and equivalent physical activities
- Withstand extensive periods of standing, walking, stooping, bending, and sitting
- Demonstrate manual dexterity, good eye-hand coordination, and adequate vision and hearing
- Perform accurately and efficiently in high-pressure situations
- Make decisions and use appropriate judgment
- Operate complex instrumentation, including counters at 36-inch height
- Work collaboratively as a team member with positive interactions
- Work irregular or flexible hours as required
- Maintain strict confidentiality of work-related information
- Maintain credentials and licensure
- Complete training and maintain competency in Highly Infectious Disease Testing procedures
- Read, write, and speak English fluently
- Pass a color vision test
Requirements
- Associate degree in Laboratory Science
- 1–3 years of experience in a hospital laboratory
- MLT registry through ASCP
