Lab Manager – Laboratory Outreach – St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital
About the role
Mercy Health seeks a Lab Manager to oversee laboratory services at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. This role requires a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field, Medical Lab Scientist certification, and 5+ years of experience in a laboratory tech setting, with previous leadership experience.
Responsibilities
- Improves laboratory operations and establishes objectives related to quality metrics
- Maintains compliance by monitoring quality indicators and identifying areas for improvement
- Hires, staffs, schedules, and onboards new employees
- Evaluates performance of department staff and conducts performance assessments
- Serves as a facilitator for regional laboratory committees and coordinates project activities
- Monitors laboratory expenses to meet budgetary goals and works with leaders on forecasting, planning, and budgeting
- Collaborates with other members of the management team to develop plans for capital replacement and acquisition
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, Biology, or Biochemistry
- Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) or ASCP Certification
- 5 years of experience in a laboratory tech setting
- Previous experience in a leadership position in a laboratory tech environment

- Possesses extensive knowledge of clinical practice or function and a thorough understanding of the organization and work environment
