Lab Cytologist

About the Role

The Cytologist performs complex technical tasks in processing and screening cytologic specimens to detect cancer or other pathological conditions, ensuring accurate and efficient testing.

Responsibilities

• Screen and analyze cytologic slides for evidence of disease
• Mark abnormalities and render diagnostic decisions
• Participate in quality assurance and control processes
• Evaluate specimen acceptability and ensure compliance with standards
• Assist in the collection, processing, and immediate evaluation of FNA samples
• Select cases for review with a pathologist
• Perform rapid on-site evaluation (ROSE) of Fine Needle Aspirations using tele-pathology systems

Requirements

• Certification as a Cytologist (CT) within one year (ASCP)
• Certificate of Completion or Bachelor's Degree in Cytotechnology
• Knowledge of specimen processing techniques and departmental protocols
• Ability to perform quality control procedures and evaluate specimen acceptability
• Proficiency in rapid on-site evaluation (ROSE) and tele-pathology systems
