About the Role
The Cytologist performs complex technical tasks in processing and screening cytologic specimens to detect cancer or other pathological conditions, ensuring accurate and efficient testing.
Responsibilities
- Screen and analyze cytologic slides for evidence of disease
- Mark abnormalities and render diagnostic decisions
- Participate in quality assurance and control processes
- Evaluate specimen acceptability and ensure compliance with standards
- Assist in the collection, processing, and immediate evaluation of FNA samples
- Select cases for review with a pathologist
- Perform rapid on-site evaluation (ROSE) of Fine Needle Aspirations using tele-pathology systems
Requirements
- Certification as a Cytologist (CT) within one year (ASCP)
- Certificate of Completion or Bachelor's Degree in Cytotechnology
- Knowledge of specimen processing techniques and departmental protocols
- Ability to perform quality control procedures and evaluate specimen acceptability
- Proficiency in rapid on-site evaluation (ROSE) and tele-pathology systems
